Camp Nejeda

After spending a week at Camp Nejeda, a sleep-away summer camp in Sussex County, New Jersey that has been empowering children living with Type 1 diabetes since 1958, William declared, “Every kid with Type 1 diabetes should go to Camp Nejeda!”

He’s right!  We support Camp Nejeda and its campership program because no parent’s financial circumstances should prevent a child living with Type 1 diabetes from experiencing Camp Nejeda. Since 2018, Type 1 Willpower has funded EIGHTEEN one-week camperships.

Diabetes Research Institute Foundation

We dream of a day when all people living with Type 1 diabetes can live without insulin dependence, when kids are no longer burdened by this chronic disease, and when parents can rest easy knowing that potentially life-threatening hypoglycemic events are a thing of the past.

We support the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation because we are encouraged and excited by their singular focus on curing diabetes now because tomorrow is not soon enough.

Riding on Insulin empowers, activates and connects the Type 1 diabetes community through shared experience and action sports, such as ski and snowboard shred sessions for kids living with Type 1 diabetes. We learned about ROI at our inaugural Turkey Trot from fellow Laker Benji Wuersch, a snowboard instructor who is living with Type 1 diabetes.

ROI offers scholarships to kids who otherwise wouldn’t be able to spend a day on the mountain. We love that! So we funded FIVE shred session scholarships for the 2018-2019 winter season to allow ROI to continue its mission of instilling resilience in those facing chronic diseases.

A program of Beyond Type 1, Diabetes Scholars offers merit-based college scholarships to high school seniors living with Type 1 diabetes. While there is no greater tool for empowerment than education, a college education (and living with T1D) is expensive.

So we lessened the burden for two awesome individuals by funding two $2,500 scholarships: one for a resident of New Jersey and one for a student competing in Division I athletics.
